EIFFEL TOWER DETAIL

INTRODUCTION

 

The Eiffel Tower  is an iron tower on the Champs de Mars in Paris, France. It is named after the engineer Gustave Eiffel, whose company designed and built the tower.

It was at the 1889 Exposition Universelle, the date that marked the 100th anniversary of the French Revolution, that a great competition was launched in the Journal Officiel.

     The Construction Schedule 

 

  • The construction work took 2 years, 2 months and 5 days.
  • The first floor was finished on the 1st April 1888
  • The second floor was finished on the 14th August 1888.
  • The assembly was completed once and for all, with the top, on the 31st March 1889.

COMPETITION GOAL

As one of the most iconic landmarks in the world, the first goal of this International Competition is to design a new icon to the city of Paris.

The architecture of this new structure should reflect contemporary design and historical tendencies.

The proposal must not only attend to the specific function but the design should also take into consideration the urban insertion and impact geared towards creating a new perspective and icon to the city.

With this competition we hope to achieve the following:

 

_To generate a balance between the real historical moment of the monument and nowadays.
_To find a design excellence between existing architecture and engineering with the project to be.
_Research, respond to and highlight the unique aspects of designing a new icon (tower).
_To generate the discussion of ideas regarding the functionality of towers in relation with art and sculpture.
_Estimulate the employment of sustainable design in all aspects of the proposal.

We want to encourage participants to think as the great minds behind this building.

THIS IS AN OPEN INTERNATIONAL IDEA COMPETITION HOSTED BY AIIC TO ESTIMULATE DESIGN IDEAS. 

UNDER NO CIRCUNSTANCES THERE WILL BE PLANS TO THE PROJECT TO BE BUILT. 

PROGRAM AND USE OF SPACE


The program for this Competition to design a new Contemporary EIFFEL TOWER that should clearly include the following in the design proposal:
_three levels for visitors, with restaurants on the first and second levels. And an observatory on the level’s upper platform  at 276 m (906 ft) above the ground .
_Wifi Hotspot / Hub
_Mobile Device Charging Points
_Bicycle Parking Station with racks for at least 100 bicycle distributed on the base of the tower.

COMPETITION STRUCTURE

This Architecture Idea Competition has the mission of identifying the most appropriate proposal, that will  best satisfies the general and specific objectives of the contest.

 THOSE ELIGIBLE TO PARTICIPATE

Architects, Architecture Graduated, Engineers and Students. Interdisciplinary teams are also encouraged to enter the Competition.

Submissions can be the work of an individual or a group up to 3 members and there is no age limit.

_Start of Competition and Early  Registration – 15th October to 07th November 2016

_Standard Registration – 08th November 2016 to 08nd January 2017

_Late Registration – 09th January to 03th  February 2017 

_Deadline for Questions – 17th December 2016

_Closing Date for Submissions – 10th February 2017

_Jury Evaluation – 11th February – 25th February 2017

_Announcement of Winners and Publication at www.aiic.co  26th February 2017
